Ordinary Membership
Ordinary Membership is available to Solicitors holding a current practicing certificate and allows a Member to style themselves as “Advocate in Aberdeen”
Associate Membership
Associate Membership is available to those holding a non-Scottish legal qualification, paralegals and academics.
Trainee Membership
Trainee Membership is available to those undertaking a Legal Traineeship with a firm located in the Sheriff Districts.

Who can join the Society of Advocates?
Anyone who is engaged in legal practice or the provision of legal education in the local area may apply to become a member.
What are the types of membership?
Full membership is available to those who are engaged in legal practice as a Solicitor. Trainee Membership is available for those currently completing their professional training. Associate membership is available to those who may hold non-Scottish qualifications or be engaged with either legal practice (other than as a Solicitor) or the provision of legal education.
How do I apply for a membership?
Download and fill out a form. Then return it to the Society for consideration by the Management Committee.
Who may counter sign my application?
If you are uncertain as to who may counter-sign your application as a proposer please contact the Executive Secretary who will assist you to identify a suitable Member.
